Student Foundations

Bloomington
Established in 1950, the IU Student Foundation in Bloomington is a national model for student organizations of its kind. Led by a 25-member senior Steering Committee and supported annually by over 400 junior members, IUSF educates undergraduates about the importance of private support for IU and offers opportunities for leadership training, community service, and philanthropy. Membership is open to second-semester sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Many of IU's donors and volunteers are Student Foundation alumni, including 25 members of the IU Foundation Board of Directors and the Student Foundation's Board of Associates.

Student Foundation members annually organize and carry out more than 60 events to raise over $50,000 in scholarships for working Indiana University students. The best-known events are the Little 500 men's and women's bike races held each April. Modeled closely after the Indianapolis 500, this event has been the subject of the academy award winning film Breaking Away and televised nationally on OLN, CBS, and ESPN. Most recently the Little 500 received international recognition from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education for outstanding alumni relations programming.

IUPUI
Established in 1999, the IUPUI Student Foundation quickly distinguished itself by winning the Best Student Organization on Campus award in its first two years. The mission of the Student Foundation is to provide opportunities for leadership, philanthropy, and community service, and to promote IUPUI to both students and the Indianapolis community. Membership is open to all IUPUI undergraduate students. Applications are available each spring for leadership positions.

The IUPUI Student Foundation annually hosts two major campus events: the Dance Marathon to benefit Riley Hospital for Children and the Ultimate Frisbee Tournament for scholarships. Members have the opportunity to serve on committees on athletic promotions, campus and community relations, membership recruitment, fundraising, communications and web development, and special events.
