What is a podcast?

A podcast is an audio file that you can download from the internet and listen to on a computer or mobile audio player for free. The term "podcast" combines the words "iPod" and "broadcast." But don’t let the term fool you: podcasts are playable on any mp3 player.

Podcasts can be downloaded from online directories, such as iTunes. After downloading a podcast, you can listen to it or, if it is part of a series, subscribe to it.

Simply downloading a podcast will bring up a single episode. By subscribing to a podcast, you will receive updates as new episodes become available. The updates are automatically downloaded into your iTunes—or other directory—through an RSS (Real Simple Syndication) feed.
