Indiana University will celebrate IU Day on April 19

Thursday, April 13, 2023

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Indiana University will celebrate its seventh annual IU Day on Wednesday, April 19. This 24-hour celebration invites Indiana University’s family and friends to come together in support of IU philanthropic causes and share IU love across Indiana, across the U.S. and around the world.

“IU Day represents the best of what it means to be part of IU and how our collective efforts can make a positive difference in the lives of others,” said J T. Forbes, president and CEO of the IU Foundation. “It’s an opportunity for everyone who has a connection to IU to come together and make a lasting impact on our university and students.”

All who love IU are encouraged to wear the colors that represent their campus community and share their expressions of gratitude on social media using the hashtag #IUday. Share a favorite IU photo on Twitter or Instagram using #IUday for a chance to win $500 for your favorite IU cause.

Students, alumni and friends of the university can choose how they want to support IU by giving to specific crowdfunding opportunities at My IU. This year’s goal is to raise 5,000 gifts by midnight April 19. If the goal is reached, each fund that receives IU Day donations will be awarded a corresponding percentage of $45,000 in matching funds. Also, gifts of $50 to $5,000 made to any public scholarship or fellowship fund will be matched dollar for dollar until the matching funds are met.

In 2022, over 5 million students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends in more than 100 countries enjoyed IU Day with a variety of virtual events, celebrations and social media challenges. The event’s official hashtag, #IUday, had over 10,000 total likes, hearts and retweets earning more than $10,000 for student scholarships.

IU Day inspired more than 4,300 individual gifts in 2022 to support the university. Over $20,000 in online challenges were unlocked. Also, funds raised supported 61 crowdfunding campaigns for a range of projects, programs, and scholarships across various areas of study — including music, theater, research, youth programs, and diversity and inclusion initiatives.

Students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends of IU are encouraged to participate in the following ways on April 19:

  • Make a gift to an IU fund that supports your passion.
  • Download IU Day social media graphics and share them using #IUday.
  • Share a favorite IU photo on Twitter or Instagram using #IUday for a chance to win $500 for your favorite IU cause.
  • Express your gratitude for IU on social media using the hashtag #IUday.
  • Follow @iufoundation on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for the latest IU Day news and events.
