BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University will celebrate its sixth IU Day on Wednesday, April 20. This is a global, 24-hour celebration promoting expressions of gratitude, support of favorite IU causes, and sharing a little IU love and joy across Indiana, across the U.S., and around the world.
"What makes IU Day so special is everyone who has a connection to IU comes together to make a difference and support the university," said J T. Forbes, president and CEO of the IU Foundation. "After commemorating IU Day virtually last year, I look forward to celebrating the day in person with other members of the IU family. This day represents the best of what it means to be part of IU and the good we can do when we come together."
All who love IU are encouraged to wear the colors that represent their campus community and share their expressions of gratitude on social media using the hashtag #IUDay. Challenges throughout the day will include social-sharing contests such as Like to Give, Heart to Give and Retweet to Give. Every action using #IUDay on social channels (like, heart, retweet and use) will earn $1 for student scholarships. Share a favorite IU photo on Twitter or Instagram using #IUDay for a chance to win up to $500 for your favorite IU cause.
In 2021, more than 6 million students, faculty, alumni and friends in 65 countries celebrated IU Day in a variety of virtual events, celebrations and social media challenges. #IUDay trended nationally based on total likes, hearts and retweets. More than 41,000 people participated in the IU social media challenges, raising $20,000 for student scholarships.
IU Day inspired more than 4,000 gifts in 2021 to support the university. Over $70,000 in online challenges were unlocked, including a $28,000 anonymous gift for the regional campus food pantries for students across Indiana.
Eighty-one crowdfunding campaigns established more than $64,000 in matching funds to support a variety of university projects, programs and scholarships for various areas of study, including music, theater, research, youth programs, and diversity and inclusion initiatives.
Students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends of IU are encouraged to participate in the following ways on April 20:
- Attend an IU Day celebration.
- Make a gift to help an IU student.
- Download and share IU Day social media graphics using #IUDay.
- Follow @iufoundation on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram for the latest IU Day news and events.
